About Us - How we got here and who we are
We're not big in commercial digital printing but we're big in sign shop secrets from the 60's. Secrets that make your signs work hard for you. Although our first computer experience started in the early 80's we've never let it take over the sign shop and use them in creative ways to add technology to those ol' time sign shop procedures.
As a young boy I would watch my father create signs with only a pencil, ruler, brush and paint. Optional items on the table were perforating wheels and knife pens to cut films and stencils. I would love the chance to go with him on the job site or to his sign shop. I'd watch him with great interest while he was up a ladder painting a wall or sitting on a wooden box lettering a truck door. In the sign shop my father would let me coat out boards while teaching me his expectations of a smooth surface! I was happy to work side by side filling in his letters and quickly adapting to the commercial arts trade, while learning the secrets of his techniques. It was also very interesting inside the sign shop as I got to witness the creative talents of other master sign painters and their techniques. Each one had their own technique suited to their character and willing to share their trade secret's. What they all had in common was their tried and true traditional methods with a modern twist to make it better and quicker. Those trade secret's became known as "Standardised Shop Procedures"
One of those secret's was layout and design. Many tools and tricks were used. While hand drawings could be included with pounce patterns and chalk, projectors and cameras were also used. Layout and design of the sign was the responsibility of the sign painter. It was often a timely part of the sign making, and probably because of that the sign painting trade was mostly replaced by the computer cut vinyl's. It was faster to rely on computers to create the layout work to any size needed.
Combining old time techniques with modern technology is what we're about. We have taken over 40 years of sign and print making secrets and developed a paint system with computer layouts. The best of both worlds, rich bold endless colours and perfect computer layouts at a competitive price or cost savings.
